Iceland Volcano Affects Kenya's Flowers

It is amazing how much we have become dependent on air travel! The erupting volcano in Iceland has now severely affected the export of flowers from Kenya! This begs the question; why/how is it cheaper to grow flowers thousands of miles away and then fly them to Europe? My suggestion would be that the labour costs in Africa are so much lower than in Europe...and we exploit that! Some things never change! Can you buy 'Fair Trade' flowers?
