Too Fat to Fight?

Is this the way civilisations end? American generals are worried that they won't be able to get as many young recruits as about 25% of the available young men are obese! This trend is obviously a concern for all of the 'developed' nations. As we become more used to a life without war we become more comfortable and less able to really fight to defend ourselves. Is this the decadence that the puritans warned us about? Does this signal the beginning of the end of our civilisation?

Your Sunday questions are:-
  1. Which ship was sunk today in 1982 by torpedoes from submarine HMS Conqueror?

  2. What was the destination of the world's first jet airliner, the De Havilland Comet (below) on its maiden commercial flight today in 1952?

  3. Who was born today in 1942 in Belgium and is the current President of the International Olympic Committee?
