World's Deltas Are Sinking

Now here is an environmental disaster that can be squarely placed as the fault of the human race! Of the world's major river deltas, over 70% of them are sinking putting about half a billion people at risk. Our desire to control our rivers and extract power from them means that very little sediment actually reaches the deltas. River deltas rely on this sediment to build them up in a process called 'aggradation' (a new word for me!). Some deltas are sinking faster than the sea level is rising!
