Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon

Just before sitting down to write this blog I caught the last part of a BBC2 programme about the new 'science' utilising the theory of Six Degrees of Separation, which essentially postulates that everyone in the world is only six friendships away from everyone else! Strange, but actually true! I need to watch it again to fully understand it. Hopefully the links in this blog will help you to follow the ideas better.

Your Wednesday questions are: -
  1. What was first issued today in 1840?

  2. Of the 97 people on the German zeppelin Hindenburg (right) today in 1937 when it burst into flames in New Jersey, how many survived - 0, 36 or 61?

  3. Today in 1880, author George Eliot married John Walter Cross. Why was there no scandal?
Yesterday's Answers: 1. Iran; 2. Billy Bob Thornton; 3. Karl Marx
