Stewart Cink - Open Golf Champion 2009

What a stunning finale to the 138th Open Golf Championship! Imagine standing on the 18th tee of the final round needing a par to win the Open and then failing to quite manage it. A nightmare in golfing terms that befell Tom Watson this year. It's a fate that has overtaken many famous golfers and is part of the spectacle of this fantastic game. So, well done to Stewart Cink for winning the Claret Jug, but it was Tom Watson's Open!

138th Open Golf Championship

Today sees the start of the Open Golf Championship (the 'British' Open to our American cousins!) on the Ailsa Course at Turnberry. Can Tiger win his fourth Claret Jug, will Harrington get out of his slump and win again or could Monty do it this time? I'll be watching as much as I can on the BBC. It looks like a great course and should be a thrilling tournament!

Your Thursday questions are: -
  1. Who became President of Iraq today in 1979?

  2. 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson (right) was born today in 1888 and finished his baseball career at which club?

  3. Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collided with which planet today in 1994? (Collisions continued until 22nd July)
Yesterday's Answers: 1. Boeing 707; 2. United Kingdom (Hampshire); 3. Napoleon Bonaparte

Judie Tzuke - 30 Years On

It is almost 30 years since one of the best songs of all time was in the British singles charts - "Stay with Me Till Dawn" by the fantastic Judie Tzuke! Although it never reached the Top 10, in 2002 it was voted the 39th Best British Song by listeners of BBC Radio 2 (one place above "Life on Mars" by David Bowie)! Since 1979, Judie has released 16 studio albums, 5 live albums and there are 5 compilations...all can be found here.

Thirty years on Judie is still producing excellent music through her own record label (Big Moon Records), collaborating with many other artists and her daughter Bailey has already had a Top 10 hit ("Uninvited" with Freemasons) with a debut album imminent!
